What Our Students Are Saying
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the difference between NCLEX-RN, CPNRE, and REx-PN?
- NCLEX-RN is the national licensing exam for Registered Nurses (RNs) in Canada and the U.S.
- CPNRE (Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination) is the current licensing exam for Practical Nurses in most provinces.
- REx-PN (Regulatory Exam – Practical Nurse) has replaced the CPNRE in Ontario and British Columbia starting from 2022.
2. Which exam should I take?
It depends on the type of nursing license you are pursuing:
- If you’re applying for RN licensure, you’ll need to pass the NCLEX-RN.
- If you’re aiming to be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), you’ll take the REx-PN (in Ontario/BC) or CPNRE (in other provinces).
3. What is the format of these exams?
- NCLEX-RN and REx-PN use a computer adaptive testing (CAT) format.
- CPNRE is a fixed-form computer-based test (not adaptive).
- All exams test competencies related to safe, entry-level nursing practice.
4. Are internationally educated nurses (IENs) eligible to write these exams directly?
Not immediately. IENs must first complete an assessment process through:
- National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) for initial credential evaluation.
- Application to the provincial nursing regulatory body for eligibility and exam approval.
5. What happens if I fail the NCLEX-RN or REx-PN?
You can retake the exam after a waiting period:
- NCLEX-RN: Every 45 days, up to 8 times per year.
- REx-PN: You can reattempt after receiving your exam results and meeting the eligibility again.
Your regulatory body may offer support or require remedial programs after multiple failures.
6. Do I need coaching to pass these exams?
While self-study is possible, coaching increases your chances of success, especially for IENs unfamiliar with the Canadian healthcare context. Eduint4u offers expert-led, comprehensive coaching tailored to NCLEX-RN, CPNRE, and REx-PN formats, complete with mock tests, study plans, and review materials.
